Air Conditioning Replacement at Kidderminster College
Replacing three ceiling cassette systems with Mitsubishi Electric equipment to standardise the college’s air conditioning
Envirotech Maintenance Services recently replaced three ceiling cassette air conditioning systems at Kidderminster College.
The college wants to use the same make of equipment across the site. Therefore, it chose Mitsubishi Electric systems to match other air conditioning units already in use.
Using the same type of equipment should make future servicing, repairs and parts sourcing easier for the college’s maintenance team.
Recovering and Removing the Old Systems
First, our engineers safely recovered the refrigerant from each old system in line with F-Gas rules.
The cassette units were large and heavy. As a result, we used a mechanical lifting aid to lower them safely from the ceiling.
We then used the same lifting equipment to raise and position the new indoor units. This reduced manual handling and helped our engineers complete the work safely.
Installing the New Mitsubishi Electric Systems
Before fitting the new equipment, our engineers checked the existing pipework, power supplies and control cables.
They then changed the refrigerant pipework and electrical cables to suit the new Mitsubishi Electric systems.
The new equipment uses R32 refrigerant. Therefore, we flushed and cleaned the existing pipework before connecting the new units.
This process helped remove any oil or material left behind by the old systems.
Testing and Commissioning
After completing the installation, our engineers pressure tested the pipework to check for leaks.
Next, they evacuated each system to remove air and moisture from the pipes.
Finally, they commissioned and tested all three systems to make sure they operated correctly.
The work included:
- Recovering refrigerant from the old systems

- Changing refrigerant pipework
- Changing power and control cables
- Flushing existing pipework for R32 refrigerant
